What are some tips for a healthy lifestyle?

Posted by admin

I use to hate the way I looked because I was kind of chubby , so I decided to start eating healthier and exercising, but that only lead to anorexia because it felt so good to see changes. However, I am a little underweight (5'5" and 112 pounds), so I am thinking about gaining a little weight because sometimes I feel too skinny. I want to continue eating healthy, but I also want to BE healthy. What can I do to be healthy now, but also be healthy for life? (I'm 15).

Thanks for all your help, and please no rude answers. =]
I'm not trying to lose weight. I'm trying to gain weight to be healthy.

aww, good for you! i know how hard it is to overcome things like this.

i got to warn you though- even though you may feel fat after gaining a few pounds, you are not. you are being healthy and going back to a more natural weight for your body.

that said, to be healthy, eat the foods you already eat except eat them when you're hungry. try not to ignore your stomach when it rumbles. eat balanced meals of fruits, vegetables, bread, and meat.

i hope this helps. good luck!

Hey!

Ok you are on the right track! Its all about the small steps, because every little small step equates to weight loss!

Now, I am a personal trainer and here are some basic things that will help you start losing weight quickly, and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

#1 : Diet Diet Diet….It is ok to go on a diet, but make sure you can follow it for atleast 6 months….No get fit quick schemes…When you do diet make sure you learn from it and apply it for life…Also, just try to eat clean, small meals frequently. This will boost metabolism, and help you lose fat!

#2 : Resistance training…You dont have to go to a gym to lose weight. I would recommend you buy a few workout DVDs some resistance bands, and try to workout 4 days a week, for atleast 45 minutes. This will help build lean muscle and allow you to burn more fat at rest! Very important when trying to love a healthy lifestyle!

#3 : Support! What I mean by this is find a group of women, in your town, or gym and keep eachother on track…..If you dont have that I have a support forum where I talk with everyone, help them their weight loss goals and give them the best tips to lose weight….You need someone to help you and keep you motivated!

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO DO IS GET IN THE MINDSET!!!

What I mean by this is mentally make the change…You are going to eat healthy, exercise, and make good choices for your body! If you can do this there is no stopping you, and you will have the body you deserve!

You can do it! Just follow those few tips, and you will be looking and feeling great in no time at all!!!

After dying my hair so many times i finally decided to just keep it natural. I haven't dyed it for 9 months and its looking great im just afraid that because i use the hair straitgner everyday it will damage my hair…please help…

If you want to get a glimpse of naturally long healthy hair take a look at my pics

1- Nutrition is the key..healthy hair starts fron the inside..eat right..exercise..lay off the sugar
2- wash your hair often..African American-twice a week.
3- Always deep condition
4- Stay away from the harsh dyes..use a gentle rinse instead
5-Use heat styling products at a minimum
6- At night always wrap your hair in a silk scarf when you sleep- it protects the hair shaft and prevents breakage.

15 year old teen who wants healthy tips for losing weight!?

I am overweight, and I need tips that are effective and healthy to help me loose weight. I don't want links to other sites, and I know I can go to a doctor, but I want people's opinions. Thanks!

(P.S. I am only 15 so I can only afford so much)

Start with realistic goals. Set a 5, 10, 20 pound limit to start. If you have more to lose then that well set it accordingly. You have to move your body. Walk, run, hike swim, take a fun class with a friend or your mom. Cut out the junk. Drink water. Low fat. Expect to lose 2 to 5 pounds a week. At first you may not lose anything, but after 6 to 8 weeks (yes, this isn't instant, but it can be permanent) Your clothes will fit you different, Those results mean more then the weight on the scale. Tell yourself, you can do it. And then do it. Good luck!

Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon

Characteristics of Traditional Diets
The diets of healthy primitive and nonindustrialized peoples contain no refined or denatured foods such as refined sugar or corn syrup; white flour; canned foods; pasteurized, homogenized, skim or low-fat milk; refined or hydrogenated vegetable oils; protein powders; artificial vitamins or toxic additives and colorings.

All traditional cultures consume some sort of animal protein and fat from fish and other seafood; water and land fowl; land animals; eggs; milk and milk products.

Primitive diets contain at least four times the calcium and other minerals and TEN times the fat soluble vitamins from animal fats (vitamin A, vitamin D and the Price Factor–now believed to be vitamin K2) as the average American diet.

In all traditional cultures, some animal products are eaten raw.

Primitive and traditional diets have a high food-enzyme content from raw dairy products, raw meat and fish; raw honey; tropical fruits; cold-pressed oils; wine and unpasteurized beer; and naturally preserved, lacto-fermented vegetables, fruits, beverages, meats and condiments.

Seeds, grains and nuts are soaked, sprouted, fermented or naturally leavened in order to neutralize naturally occuring antinutrients in these foods, such as phytic acid, enzyme inhibitors, tannins and complex carbohydrates.

Total fat content of traditional diets varies from 30% to 80% but only about 4% of calories come from polyunsaturated oils naturally occurring in grains, pulses, nuts, fish, animal fats and vegetables. The balance of fat calories is in the form of saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids.

Traditional diets contain nearly equal amounts of omega-6 and omega-3 essential fatty acids.

All primitive diets contain some salt.

Tradtional cultures consume animal bones, usually in the form of gelatin-rich bone broths.

Traditional cultures make provisions for the health of future generations by providing special nutrient-rich foods for parents-to-be, pregnant women and growing children; by proper spacing of children; and by teaching the principles of right diet to the young.

Any tips for healthy eating on a budget?

Posted by admin

I am a 23 year old college student and I am looking for some good tips/recipes/ideas for healthy eating on a budget. I love fresh fruits and vegetables… and pretty much anything diet related/healthy…. that’s not the problem. My problem is that I can’t afford to pay the ridiculously high prices for healthy food! Does anyone have any ideas?
I like the ideas so far but one thing I should definaely qualify is that I live in maine… so this time of year the farmer's market is not an option… sadly.

I feel your pain! Organic is crazy expensive and fresh fruits and veggies alone are very expensive here in Milwaukee. I have tried to shop local and unfortunately it is usually more pricey than pick n save. Try to join the savers clubs at your local grocery stores, these cards allow you to get the sale prices. I personally look in the ads every week and buy my fresh fruits and veggies at the grocery stores in my area depending on the sales. Then I buy my whole grain pastas and cereals at wal mart, they have excellent prices. Aldi also has great prices but be careful because their meat is iffy and the veggies can go bad quickly. Good luck sweety I know it is a pain but very worth it in the long run.

PS prices vary depending on where you live. I live in an area where farmers markets are NOT cheaper, I shopped local for years and cannot afford it any longer.

healthy chihuahua tips anyone?

I have an 8 month old chihuahua and i want to make sure she's as healthy as she can possibly be? does anyone have any tips for maintaining a healthy chi?

Regular vet care (including dental), exercise and quality food. Our pets need quality pet food. Read the ingredients list and learn what the stuff on there is and what it does (or does not do) to/for our pets. A quick pet food 101. If the pet food contains corn/corn products or by products it is a poor quality food. Do not pay attention to advertising, they all say there food is great. Corn is a filler that can trigger skin problems. (allergies, skin problems, itching and excessive shedding) By products is anything from an animal not fit for human consumption, including cancerous tissue. Quality foods have meat as the first ingredient. California Natural, Solid Gold, Innova and Merrick are a few of the best brands available. I'm getting my first kitten in a few months. Any real tips to keep her happy and healthy?

Posted by admin

I know the feeding, watering, and litter box deal. I've been with cats my entire life. I just want to know how to keep her healthy and happy if any of you have any cool and helpful tips. Also, get rid of fear, keep her playful, etc. Thanks!

Well the first day you 'll get her just don't rush things.Leave her alone to decide what she wants and what she doesn't want to do.Some kittens are very social right from the beginning, others are scared and need time to get used to their new home.Pushing your new kitten to do something she doesn't want to do,like cuddle with you, will only resolve in her being even more scared.Give her the time she needs.Visiting the house she is now into will help her get used to you,so the transfer to your house will be easier for both of you.
Buy her a lot of toys to keep her busy the time you won't be home.In pet shops you will find a variety of toys for cats.Remember that not all cats like the same things,so just because something is a hit doesn't mean your car will like it too,for example my cat is scared of mice you wind up,he hates it when he sees them moving in circles, lol.
Deside now where you want her to go and where you don't.It's very hard to teach them what they can and can't do when they are older and already used to doing it.Remember that if you don't want the cat to sleep with you in your bed you need to be firm and never allow her on your bed.Closing the door of your bedroom is the best solution.I started not letting my cat on my bed,let him there once after he was neutered cause I felt bad for him, well the damage was done,he is now almost 5 years old and I don't dare to close my bedroom door,he would tear it down in order to get in,lol!
Get her used on eating on specific times and don't give her any extras during the day.Twice daily is the best solution, give her some food at the morning when you wake up and some at night, before you start eating dinner. And NEVER give her to eat from the table…trust me on this one,you don't want a cat begging for food the whole time you eat.
Don't push your cat to be friendly with strangers if she doesn't want to.Some cats like the attention of others, others hate it and would prefer to be hidden 'till the "strangers" are gone.
Take her always to the vet for the vaccinations she needs and all your questions considering her health.Chip and spray her if you are planning to let her go outside.Love her and take good care of her. That's about it!Have fun with your new pet :)
